Can you cancel flights with Aer Lingus? Can you get a refund on Aer Lingus flights?

Depending on the fare you have chosen, you may have the option of cancelling your Aer Lingus flight as well as receiving a full refund. The fares for Aer Lingus are Saver, Smart or Plus Fare, Advantage, Flex, or Business Flex Fare, and Business Fare.

 

Saver, Smart or Plus Fare

If you have booked a Saver, Smart or Plus Fare, these are non-refundable. The only exceptions being if your flight is to/from the United States and is...

a) cancelled within 24 hours of booking, as well as,

b) booked one week or more prior to the flight’s departure.

*The refund administration fee is €20/person per one-way flight. The refund administration fee does not apply for bookings originated in the United States or Canada.

 

Advantage, Flex, or Business Flex Fare

If you have booked an Advantage, Flex, or Business Flex Fare, a full refund is given if you cancel the booking prior to the flight’s departure time. Only the fare difference is eligible for a refund where guests have upgraded their original booking.

 

Business Fare

If you have booked a Business Fare, a full refund less 15% of the flight flare applies. The refund administration fee is €20/person per one-way flight, but does not apply if the bookings originated in the United States or Canada.

 

In other cases

In the unfortunate event of a death in your immediate family, you will be given a full refund when you present a copy of the death certificate before you have travelled. If it is after you have travelled (in the case of a return flight), you may change the return flight up to a maximum of 45 days free of charge when you present a copy of the death certificate. Immediate family members include: spouse, children, parent, grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, nieces nephews, aunts, uncles, and father/mother/sister/brother/son/daughter-in-law.

You may be wondering if you can change your Aer Lingus flight. Many people seek to change the dates of their flights, the time of their flights, or even the destination of their flights. Below we have outlined how you may manage your booking with Aer Lingus, depending on your fare and booking destination.

 

If you are changing your booking within Europe and have purchased a:

  • Saver Fare or Plus Fare

    • Changes can be made online at a charge of €40/£35/$60 per person per flight, plus any difference in cost between the original price paid and the fare at the time of the change.

    • If the new fare is of lower value than the original fare, there will be no refund.

    • Changes are only permitted from same country of origin and  up to 2-hours before scheduled departure time.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

  • Advantage Fare or AerSpace Fare

    • No itinerary change fee will apply.

    • Changes can be made from same country of origin only up to 2 hours before departure time.

    • The missed departure fee is waived for changes at the check-in desk on the day of departure only.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

 

If you are changing your Transatlantic booking and have purchased a:

  • Saver/Smart Fare

    • Changes can be made online at a charge of €100/£85/$150 per person per flight, plus any difference in cost.

    • If the new fare is of lower value than the original fare, there will be no refund.

    • Routing changes are allowed from the same country of origin only.

    • Changes to Aer Lingus reservations between the UK/Continental Europe and North America which include a connecting flight in Ireland will be subject to a combination of the change fees above.

    • Changes can be made from same country of origin only up to 2 hours before departure time.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

    • Cancellation of individual segments on roundtrip or connecting fares are considered a change and subject to any applicable fare difference.

  • Flex Fare

    • No change fee will apply.

    • Routing changes can be made from same country of origin only up to 2-hours before departure time.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

    • Cancellation of individual segments on roundtrip or connecting fares are considered a change and subject to any applicable fare difference.

  • Business Fare

    • Routing changes are allowed from the same country of origin only.

    • If the new fare is of lower value than the original fare, there will be no refund.

    • Changes can be made from same country of origin only up to 2-hours before departure time.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

    • Cancellation of individual segments on roundtrip or connecting fares are considered a change and subject to any applicable fare difference.

  • Business Flex Fare

    • Changes to Aer Lingus reservations between the UK/Continental Europe and North America which include a connecting flight in Ireland will be subject to a combination of the change fees above.

    • Changes can be made from same country of origin only up to 2-hours before departure time.

    • Travel must be completed within one year of original date of purchase.

    • Cancellation of individual segments on roundtrip or connecting fares are considered a change and subject to any applicable fare difference.

Is it possible to transfer your Aer Lingus flight to another person?

Yes! Name changes for Aer Lingus are permitted at a cost of €100/£80/$157 per person and may be changed up to 2-hours before the start of your journey. Names must be changed for all Aer Lingus flights in the itinerary. Name changes aren't permitted for bookings in the itinerary with airlines other than Aer Lingus. What if I have an Aer Lingus voucher?
