On our Buy Flight Tickets page, you can search for specific destinations or, if you are feeling adventurous, surf through all of the posted flights. When you have selected the flight you want, you can bid for it. The seller then has the option to either accept or reject your bid. If accepted, you will then have 48 hours to place a final bid and send us the money. When we receive the funds, we will notify the seller, who will have 48 hours to accept the final bid and transfer the plane tickets in your name. The seller will pay the airline name change fees. If you or the seller misses your time windows, you have to reinstate your bid for the airline tickets. Once everything is done, you will be sent your booking confirmation and flight details.
If the seller doesn't accept your final bid or it times out, you can ask for a refund by sending us a short message and we will refund you shortly. If the seller asks for more money as the current price has gone up, you can either resubmit your final bid and pay the extra funds or ask for a refund.
This two-stage process with time constraints will stimulate you and the seller to buy/sell quickly, to avoid any changes in the airfare price. The bidding process allows you to agree the best price for the flight with the seller - at the time when you want to buy it. Flight prices fluctuate frequently and it is very likely that the price will have changed since the seller bought the ticket(s).
We will only send the money to the seller when they can no longer make further changes to the booking, or after the date of your flight. This is your protection against fraudulent sellers. You can thank us later!
On our Buy Holiday Packages page, you can search for specific destinations or, if you are feeling adventurous, surf through all of the posted package holidays. You will then have 48 hours to place a final bid and send us the money. When we receive the funds, we will notify the seller, who will have 48 hours to accept the final bid and transfer the holiday package in your name. If you or the seller misses your time windows, you will have to reinstate your bid. Once everything is done, you will be sent the booking reference details. The seller will pay any transfer fees.

You can use the comments box in your initial bid to ask the seller any questions you have. Don’t worry, you are not obliged to buy the travel deal when you submit the initial bid. You only commit when you submit the final bid and send SpareFare the money. You do not have to send a final bid if you do not like the seller’s response.
In order to resell your plane ticket, your airline should allow name changes - this is how you can resell your flight and get a partial or full refund. Most low-cost and some standard airlines allow name changes for a fee. For detailed information about airline ticket transfer fees for over 60 airlines, please visit our Airline Name Change Fees page. If your airline is not in our list, this means that it does not allow name changes. We advise you to check with your flight operator if your airline is not in our list, to confirm that our information is up to date, as it could change overnight.
If you find that your airline does not officially allow name changes, it is still worth calling customer service to see if they would make an exception for you.
Please get in touch if you don't see your airline listed, but you know it allows name changes, or if you have spotted information that is not up to date.
If you purchased your flight through a travel agent, the travel agent’s rules about name changes will apply instead of the airline’s rules.
If you have booked your flights and hotel separately, check if your airline allows name changes - this is how you can resell your plane ticket and get a partial or full refund. You also have to check with your hotel administrator what their rules are - most do allow guest name changes on your non-refundable hotel reservation. Most low-cost and some standard airlines allow name changes for a fee. For detailed information about airline ticket transfer fees for over 60 airlines, please visit our Airline Name Change Fees page. We advise you to check with your flight operator if your airline is not in our list, to confirm that our information is up to date, as it could change overnight.
If you have booked your flights and hotel together, they may qualify as a holiday package. We advise you to check with your holiday operator if they allow transfers/name changes. If you are a resident of the EU, you may be allowed to transfer/resell your holiday package as directed under the European Directive of Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours 1990, even if your airline tickets are not transferable on their own. Please check with your holiday operator what the fees and deadlines are for name changes before posting your offer.
You have to check with your hotel administrator what their rules are - most do allow guest name changes on your non-refundable hotel reservation. If your hotel room is partially refundable, you can still list it on SpareFare to try to recover more of your money.
Posting your flight(s)
If you want to be in charge of the whole process, you can choose the standard option and post your offer on our Sell Flight Tickets page. You will need a SpareFare registration (you may sign in with Facebook). This option is completely free! You can watch a video How to sell my flight.
If you do not have much time, you can choose the Quick Assisted Post option and we will post the flight on your behalf. We will also create a SpareFare account for you using the email address and passwords provided for your airline account if available (or use a random password that you can easily reset). If someone is interested in your offer, you will receive an email and take charge of the rest of the process. If you sell your flight successfully, we will charge you 10% of the refund amount you receive (including name change fees). You will need to give us the details needed to access the booking - otherwise, we won’t be able to get the information we need to post the flight for you.
No asking price
When you post your flight you will not give an asking price. This is because the price you will be willing to sell the ticket for will depend on the current live price of the flight at the time of the sale. The prices you see on the website are indicative and are calculated by our system. Buyers are free to make an offer for any amount, as long as it is not too low.
Selling your flight tickets
Buyers can bid for your flight tickets - they will offer you a price, which you can accept or reject (with or without offering them an alternative price). If you accept the offer, the buyer has 48 hours to place a final bid and send us the money for the flight. You will then have 48 hours from the time the buyer places the final bid to accept that final bid and transfer the flight tickets in the name of the buyer (and do anything else agreed with the buyer in the bidding process). You will receive a confirmation when the buyer sends us the money – only then you should proceed to transfer the flight tickets in their name. If you or the buyer misses your time windows, the buyer has to reinitiate the process from the beginning. You have to change the name associated with the ticket to the buyer’s name and you are the one who pays all airline transfer fees.
This two-stage process with time constraints will stimulate you and the seller to buy/sell quickly, to avoid any changes in the price of the flight tickets. If you are wondering why you cannot just set a price for the flight tickets from the beginning, it is to give you a chance to sell at the best price for you at the time of the sale, depending on the live price of the flight at that moment.
As part of our buyers' protection policy, you will receive the money from us only when you no longer have access to make further changes to the booking. If this is not possible, we will send you the money a few days after the flight’s take-off date. During that period we will keep the funds in our PayPal account - they will not be withdrawn or used by us for any purpose.
PayPal
We use only PayPal for our money transfers. PayPal charges us money transfer fees – around 4% of the transferred sum, and we pass on these fees to the sellers.

All airlines allow changes to the dates of your flight (outbound and inbound) for a fee, but only some allow modifications of your origin and/or destination - check our Airline Change Fees page for information and useful links. If you are changing the flight, all airlines ask you to pay the difference if the new flight is more expensive. However, if you are only changing the name, many airlines won't ask you to pay the difference on top of the fixed fee.
If you are changing the flight, make sure to make both changes (flight and name) in one go to avoid extra fees.
If your price is sold out and you do not know what amount to enter in the Current Airline Price field, you can use the current price of a similar flight. Use either a flight on the same day and with the same destinations but a different airline or the same flight with the same airline but for the day before or the day after. Make sure to mention in the description that the flight is sold out - it gives you more bargaining power for the price!
It depends on the airline. In most cases, it is between 2 hours to 1 day before the scheduled take-off time of the outbound flight. Most airlines allow name changes only for the entire itinerary (outbound and inbound flights). For specific information about name change rules, visit our Airline Name Change Fees page.
Our list includes airlines that have been confirmed to offer name changes/ticket transfers - some only in special circumstances. If you don’t see your airline listed and you have checked with them that name changes are allowed, please let us know and we will add it as soon as possible.
We would never be able to run a successful business if we did not do exactly what we said we would do. SpareFare is a legitimate business, run by SpareFare Limited – a company registered in the United Kingdom. The buyer's funds will be used only to pay the seller (after PayPal fees, we charge no commission for the standard option at the moment). We believe our business has a great future, and we wouldn’t think of ruining it by being unfair to our users. Our business and our reputation are worth way more than a flight ticket!
Last but not least, we have our code of ethics that we will always try to be as fair as possible to all involved.
If you still have concerns, please feel free to contact us.
We will not send your money to the seller, before the flight tickets or holiday is completely transferred to you (what we call irreversibly transferred*) and you are happy that the flight ticket/holiday is the one offered.
Some flight tickets/holidays cannot be irreversibly transferred. In that case, we will pay the seller after you fly/ after the end of the holiday you bought. If something goes wrong in the process or the seller is offering a fake reservation, we will refund your money.
Given the SpareFare protection policy and the cost of name changes, there is no financial benefit for the seller to try and cheat and cause you the inconvenience of going through another booking.
* This is when the seller no longer has access to the booking and cannot make any further changes.
A booking is irreversibly transferred when the seller no longer has access to it to make further changes (e.g. to change the name again).
If the booking is linked to an online account with an airline, the booking will be irreversibly transferred when the seller changes the email associated with the account to the buyer’s email, and then the buyer changes/resets the password for the account. That way the seller will no longer have access to the account and will not be able to make further changes to the booking.
A booking is not irreversibly transferable when the flight tickets can be accessed using only a booking reference, flight details and surname of the passenger. The seller will always have that information and they will always be able to access the booking. In that event, the seller could change the name connected with the flight tickets multiple times and try to sell it to many buyers.
PLEASE NOTE: If the booking is not irreversibly transferred, we will transfer the money to the seller after the flight's take-off date/end of the holiday. If the seller changes the name again, he will not receive the fees he paid for the transfer to you, and you will receive your money back. We see no financial benefit for the seller to do so given the cost of name changes.
We suggest you request no more than 50% savings of the total benefit (this is the sum of the seller's refund and your savings). You are free to ask for any savings up to 75%; however, the seller is unlikely to accept less than 50% of the total benefit. After name change fees their refund will likely be no more than 20%-30% of the original price paid.
SpareFare is free to post your offer if you use the standard form for posting! We only charge a 12% commision on the final selling price when your listing sells.
If you choose to use the Premium Posting (where we post the flight ticket/holiday for you), we charge a $10 posting fee with the 12% commision on the the price you recieve from the buyer of your reservation if the sale is successful.
We use PayPal to transfer funds from buyers to sellers and PayPal charges us transaction fees, which we then pass onto you. These transfer fees are not our commission, and we do not keep any of the fees for ourselves. The PayPal fees will depend on the country and currency of the transaction. They vary between 3% and 5%.
Our Dispute Policy is part of SpareFare’s Terms and Conditions. It is under 7. Disputes.
